BackOffice Administrator and Service Accounts
Many BackOffice Server components require you to designate a Windows NT user account for the component to use. In some cases, the user account is used by the designated administrator of the component to log on the server. In other cases, the component itself uses the user account to log on as a service.
With this dialog box, you specify the accounts to use for these administrator and service accounts. When designating these accounts, you should keep the following in mind:
- Administrator accounts
should be Windows NT domain accounts that belong to the local Administrators group on the server. If a component's administrator must be able to administer the Windows NT domain the server belongs to, then the account should also be in the Domain Administrators group.
- Service accounts
should not be used by users to log on the computer. When you create the account, you should specify that the password never expires and that it cannot be changed by the user.
